Philosophy of Education

Beginning in the 2010-2011 school year, LLS instituted differentiated education for all grades. Instruction for all students is tailored to the students’ level of competency, ability and interests. Many of our students are working a grade or more ahead of their actual age level.

Lakewood Lutheran School seeks to foster a lifelong love of learning by providing a Christ-centered, academically challenging environment in which each student discovers and uses his or her God-given talents.

I. CREDO ON CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Mission of LLS

Philosophy of a Christian Education

We believe that Christian Education is a vital aspect of God’s mission, commanded by Him to the church through the Great Commission: “Go ye, therefore, and teach all nations (including the young)… teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.” (Matt. 28: 19-20)

We believe the Christian Educator and Christian parents will work in harmony to achieve this goal. “Parents…raise them with Christian discipline and instruction.” (Eph. 6:4)

Each child is a gift from God with unique gifts, talents and abilities. Christian education is committed to providing a complete education for God’s children by meeting their physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual needs.

II. PHILOSOPHY OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

The purpose for Christian education is to teach Christian doctrine through instruction in God’s Word, to bring His children to faith in Jesus Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit; and to lead God’s children to live a life of discipleship. We believe that the achievement of these goals of Christian education creates the hope of eternal salvation in heaven for God’s children.

Christian education endeavors to discover and to provide educational principles serving as guidelines for life. In its endeavor, it accepts as its primary source of information the wholly inerrant Word of God – divine revelation – as recorded in the Bible. The truths from divine revelation and their applications are the fundamental premises in the Christian philosophy of education.

The purpose of Christian education is also to provide academic excellence and prepare God’s children to be responsible citizens. It is of great importance that each child learns that which is best for him and that which enables him to glorify his Creator.
